If Your Pet Goes Missing: The First 24 Hours

Snootit Editorial TeamPublished in-houseOctober 10, 20262 min read

Most lost pets are found close to home. Acting quickly and getting the word out to people nearby makes a real difference.

Right away

  • Search your home first — cats especially can hide in closets, cupboards and under furniture.
  • Walk your neighborhood calling calmly. Take treats or a favorite squeaky toy, and bring a flashlight after dark.
  • Leave a worn piece of your clothing and your pet's bed near your door.

Turn on Lost Mode

In Snootit, open your pet's page and turn on Lost Mode. Anyone who scans your pet's Snootit tag sees a recovery page and can reach you without seeing your phone number. Then share an alert in Circle so neighbors within your radius get a notification.

Spread the word

  • Call nearby shelters and animal control, and visit in person if you can.
  • Contact your microchip registry and make sure your details are current.
  • Post a clear, recent photo. In Circle, your exact address stays private — neighbors see an approximate area.

Stay safe

Be cautious of anyone asking for money before returning a pet, and meet in a public place if you go to collect them. In Circle, people who have seen your pet message you through Snootit, by push notification and email, so neither of you has to share a phone number or email address.

When your pet is home

Mark the report Reunited so neighbors know, and so Lost Mode turns off. Then give your pet a check-over and a calm, quiet space — and thank everyone who helped.
